Montepulciano is at a high altitude of 2,000 feet and can be seen from a distance with its redbrick buildings. Montepulciano has wonderful churches, public buildings and delightful atmosphere.
San Gimignano is a medieval town that owes its famous skyline to the rival families who tried to outdo each other by building taller and taller towers. Of the original 76 towers only 13 still survive today.
Pienza is a classic model of a Renaissance town. In the mid-15th century, Pope Pius II turned this out of the way hill town into a testing ground for the most advanced Renaissance ideas about urban planning. Strolling the streets of this village on a beautiful day is an absolute delight.

Siena: just a few miles away from the wine producing regions of Chianti and Montalcino, and from the historic towns of San Gimigniano, Pienza, Montepulciano, Monteriggioni, and San Quirico d'Orcia, Siena is ideal for artistic and gourmet tourism in all seasons.Siena is built across a range of small hills, a unique position which gives it a pleasant atmosphere of being a collection of smaller towns. Since the thirteenth century it has been divided into three terzi, arranged around the splendid Campo. These terzi are in turn subdivided into contrade, seventeen in all, which play a hugely important role in the life of the city. If you come here in August don't miss the Palio - a horse race in the center of town. Even better Siena is just fifty minutes by bus or car from Florence.
